Changes to Hoopla Borrowing Limit

News Date:
01 August 2017

Effective September 1, Marigold is decreasing the borrowing limit on Hoopla, from five items to two items per patron per month. Hoopla is a resource that enables cardholders to download or stream a variety of formats including music, movies, eBooks and audiobooks.

Since the introduction of Hoopla in 2014, rising costs of the service has become a concern.  The service uses a pay-per-use cost model.  Each month, costs continue to rise and the service is becoming unaffordable.  Hoopla is partially funded by Public Library Services Branch, Alberta Municipal Affairs.

Marigold Library System is dedicated to providing a wide range of digital services to our member libraries. To continue funding multiple services to meet the needs and interests of all of our library communities - such as eBooks/audiobooks (OverDrive and Cloud Library), music (Freegal), student support (Solaro) this change is necessary.
