Summer Village of Ghost Lake celebrates 30 years of membership in Marigold!  In March 1984, the Summer Village of Ghost Lake became a member of Marigold. Thirty years later, former Marigold Board member Renee Schleussing, who looks after the Marigold Book Deposit in the village, along with Chris Boyd and other library volunteers, are delighted with the changes in their Deposit and in the services that Marigold provides.

In 2012 the Deposit was moved into the new community building. Renee believes that the Deposit is a vital part of the community. It is wheelchair accessible, has a special easy-to-reach shelf for children and large bright windows. There has been an increase in use due to young families moving into the community. Each summer a Regatta is held in the community which also brings extended family members and friends into the Deposit.

Renee reminisced that “In early years Marigold hired summer reading program performers to come to the village to provide entertainment for the kids and to encourage reading over the summer. The Deposit was quite small then and people really appreciated being able to drop in to find a suitable read or attend a performance with their children. Now the kids have an option to join the summer reading program online and a special website provided by Marigold called teensbookingit.com is just for teens. Ghost Lake also makes available to the kids all the special summer material provided by Marigold.”

Residents can obtain a library card through Marigold Headquarters or from their nearest Marigold member library. A library card allows access to a broad range of eResources such as online magazines, newspapers, genealogy, eBooks, eAudiobooks, movies, TV shows, music, the online catalogue with over 3 million items and much more.

Michelle Toombs, CEO for Marigold Library System, noted “I appreciate the dedication of Renee, Chris and the other volunteers — they are great ambassadors for Marigold and for libraries. Headquarters staff always look forward to bringing new material to the Deposit and are especially delighted to partake in tea and desserts provided by the volunteers. Congratulations on your 30th Anniversary of membership in Marigold!”
